After nearly two-and-a-half years in jail, Young Thug has pleaded guilty to participating in criminal street gang activities, charges for which he was arrested for in May 2022. On October 31, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, who presided over his case, sentenced the rapper to time served and 15 years of probation, which means he’ll be released immenently, per reports by The New York Times.
The decision wraps up a challenging and winding court case battle for the rapper, which also affected 27 other members and affiliates of his rap collective YSL, including Gunna.
Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, was originally indicted by the state of Georgia in a 56-count RICO case that alleged Williams was running a “criminal street gang” through the YSL collective. After spending 567 days in jail, his trial began in earnest on November 27, 2023. Per NBC, it became Georgia’s longest-running trial.
