YSL rapper Strick shares “Nelly Furtado” video
The North Carolina rapper proudly reps his crew amidst the ongoing RICO case against it.
Young Stoner Life Records is currently the subject of a sweeping Georgia RICO case, but 2018 signee Strick still proudly reps the brand. The North Carolina emcee has released a new track titled “Nelly Furtado,” and #FreeYSL is inscribed in its Youtube headline. It’s a single from his next project, The Machine Vol. 3, scheduled to arrive sometime this summer.
Early on in his new speaker-knocking melodic trap cut, Strick shouts out “SLATT,” an acronym for Slime Love All The Time that is referenced multiple times within the YSL RICO indictment to tie Young Thug and others to street gang activity. It’s one of many lyrics listed as “overt acts in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy,” reflecting the long-standing, blatantly prejudicial practice of putting rap music on trial. While signed to Young Stoner Life Records, Strick is not named in the case as an associate of Young Slime Life, which Georgia state prosecutors allege to be a criminal street gang.
Elswhere on “Nelly Furtado,” Strick name checks a walk-in closet’s worth of designer brands and, of course, the track’s titular Canadian singer — who, he tells Complex, has cosigned the single. Its visual treatment centers shots of Strick enjoying the company of a bevy of beautiful women, but it ends on a more somber note: a dedication to Lil Keed, a 24-year-old Atlanta rapper and fellow YSL signee who passed away suddenly last month.
